Understanding Autoexposure
Autoexposure controls the amount of light that is used to expose the camera’s image sensor. It does this by adjusting the shutter speed and f-stop.
But like most automatic features, knowing how they function will help you keep the camera from getting fooled in those special situations that often yield the most dramatic photos…. such as backlighting, or when your main subject is off-center.
In this section we look at the four main components of the automatic mode … focus, exposure, white balance and flash.
Autoexposure controls the amount of light that is used to expose the camera’s image sensor. It does this by adjusting the shutter speed and f-stop.
All digital cameras have an auto white balance setting that allows the camera to detect the color of the light and balance it correctly.
Autoflash on a digital camera is designed to automatically fire the flash when there is not enough light to get a good exposure.
Autofocus is an important feature on digital cameras and knowing how the camera focuses the lens will help you use it properly.
